The rock band workshop is designed for string students that want to play in a rock band but haven’t had the opportunity to do so due to feeling restricted by their instrument. Bowed instruments can create a diverse range of sounds through effects such as delays and reverbs and the use of bowing, plucking and tapping the instrument. They rival the powerful sound of a guitar when soloing with a wah and distortion and can just as easily sit back in the band taking on the role of a groove player in a band. The rock band workshop is presented as a 1.5 hour intensive workshop or can alternatively be incorporated into the Semester Programme, running one ensemble with a rock band. The workshop welcomes existing school rock bands to participate in the workshop but can also put together a band of interested students for the workshop. All instrumentalists have the opportunity to play a solo and rotate between being a part of the rhythm section and the soloist/melody player.
